Early Bird – 11th May

Doctor Sardonicus was a non runner but Another Batt, our MAX e/w duly did the business, winning at an SP of 5/1 and giving us a great profit on the week now. Confidence is high and so hopefully that can be continued into the weekend.

5:15 Chester – Angel Gabrial

Koukash horse who is getting on now as a 9yo, though has slipped drastically in the weights in the last year having started 2017 on a mark of 96 and is now fully 20lb lower. Obviously not getting any younger but this is the one meeting the horse has surely been lined up for, knowing how fond the owner is of getting winners here. Ran with credit last time on ground that would have been too soft. Yard is in great form and with Hanagan booked it is always a good sign for the yard. Decent draw, where a low stall is always crucial even over this trip. Certainly hopeful it will run a big race.

3:35 Chester – My Reward

Hard to get away from the chances of My Reward from a trends point of view. Seven of the last nine winners were drawn in five or lower. All 10 winners carried between 8st 9lb and 9st 6lb. Seven of the ten had run within the last two months, with two of the last four racing in a 2m handicap at Ripon at the end of April (My Reward was third in that race this year). Five of the last ten winners were aged 6yo, the same as My Reward. Nine of the ten winners were described as racing no worse than midfield, so this front runner drawn in stall 1 looks to have an exceptional chance. Course winner last year and on good ground, it is only 4lb higher than its last win. Trip is an unknown but this will probably be the easiest place to get it, especially when able to take the shortest route also. If it stays then I would think it will take a lot of beating.

7:20 Nottingham – The Bear Can Fly

Think this is worth a small e/w bet at a big price. Shaped with plenty of promise in maidens it did disappoint last time at Chelmsford in first time head gear though considering it has been off the track since suggests all was not well that day. Handicap looks workable and fillies handicaps are easier at this grade. Yard form is good and they did send out a handicap winner first time up this year recently. Looks like it handles most ground, hopefully it will go well.
