Early Bird – 25th August

Unbelievable not to have a 14/1 winner today as Mabbs Cross got chinned on the line by a 14/1 chance. Very frustrating as the photo took a long while to sort out. Was hopeful it would go our way.

Analysis

2:05 Goodwood – Beat The Bank – 2pt win @ 6/4 WillHill

Fine record in fields of 8 or less of 111115, defeat coming last time in the group 1 Sussex stakes when perhaps getting spooked by bumping the rail and just struggling with the step up in class. Back down to a group 2, has 7 runners in opposition of which they don’t look the strongest. Admittedly has to concede weight to most of the field but hopefully this is a good chance to get back on the winning streak.

3:40 York – Nakeeta – 1pt e/w @ 10/1 Skybet 1/5th odds 7 places

Amazing place terms from Skybet, betting to 7 places means there is value to be had. The best and safest option for me is Nakeeta, winner of the race last year. Did so off a 4lb lower mark than here plus 2lb difference in the jockey claim. However, it seems to excel at York where its form figures read 4221 and shaped much more encouragingly last time when a staying on 5th behind Stratum and is 7lb better off with the favourite. Won this race from an even wider draw last year so that is of no concern, I don’t see why it should finish outside the first 7 places.

4:50 York – Pivoine – 1pt win @ 6/1 Ladbrokes and Coral

Unlucky at Goodwood behind Alfarris and has every chance of reversing the placings with that rival with the yard going so well at the moment (Operating a 28% strike rate) and leading apprentice jockey Jason Watson, who is riding with such confidence, taking a further 3lb off its back. A visor seemed to work well for the horse before so the switch to blinkers could be equally effective. Clearly not the easiest handicap to win but this is a progressive runner who looks open to winning such a competitive race off its current mark.
