Early Bird – 6th June

3:30 Sandown – Mustashry

Looks a typical patient Sir Michael Stoute type, a 5yo with just 11 runs under his belt. However, already a group 3 winner last year on only try beyond a mile which suggests that this trip will see further improvement. Disappointed on last run, but that may be excused because of the ground. Its record on good or faster, or the a/w reads 42112411, with a James Bond 007 on good to soft or softer. Fitness will be taken on trust but have to have faith in a trainer with such a great record. Yard is in good form and with a 25% strike rate here over the last five years then it could well add to that record.

1.5pt win Mustashry @ 11/4 Ladbrokes and Coral

1:50 Sandown – Country Rose

Speedy filly who led up the field in the Queen Mary before found racing away from the majority of the field. Got caught in the final couple of furlongs but still ran on well enough to be beaten just under 5 lengths. Has the advantage of bagging the rail draw at Sandown, often strongly favoured over this trip and hard to see anything getting ahead of her with the speed she has shown. All about whether she sees the trip out in this field, the worry is that you bump into something special in a race like this, but with all barring one comfortably beat at Ascot, the other was beaten in a novice event during the same week, there seems to be less to fear. The yard do well with their sprinters and with a couple of recent winners there is no concern about the yard form. It will be the horse they all have to pass.
