Saxon Warrior was an impressive winner of the 2000 guineas and is now very short for the Derby. If it handles the track there then it will take all the beating.
2:55 Newmarket – Mr Lupton
Gutted to see this already as favourite as it has ideal conditions, needing the strong pace of a 6f handicap and big field to get the cover so it can be held up and finish late. Was actually rated 3lb higher last year when taking this race, also after a prep once again, though have to admit it looks tougher this time round. This horse is more than capable though and Spencer is the ideal jockey for it.
2pt win Mr Lupton @ 11/2 WillHill
3:35 Newmarket – Soliloquy & Anna Nerium
Going two handed into the Guineas again mainly because there are two horses who fit the trends exceptionally well and both are a fair price. Ideally you want a horse who who won last time out (As 10 of the last 14 have done), Run that season (7 of last 10) and has previous course form (8 of the last 12). Soliloquy is the shorter of the pair but is less experienced, which isn’t ideal as 6 of the last 10 winners had run at least 5 times. However, it was an impressive winner of the Group 3 Nell Gwyn just over two weeks ago, has surely got more improvement to come and the yard are in flying form at the moment. The other horse is Anna Nerium who also has already won here this year though that was in a listed handicap off a mark of 100. However, it was the manner of the victory that was impressive, pulling clear of some good horses despite not being fancied. Has the experience often found with the winner of this and though this is another step up in class, she did win a group 3 last year and shouldn;t be outclassed here.
