There were creditable performances from Kenmare River (3rd at Beverley) and Helioblu Bareliere (3rd at Thirsk) yesterday. Donny Belle blew the start at Beverley but made up some eye-catching late ground to finish on the heels of the leaders. She looks one to keep on the right side of in the near future. Ypres and Rosy Ryan were both disappointing at Thirsk and the day ended in a loss.
3.30 – Catterick – Short Work. 2 pts win. Available at 5/1.
Only eight runners but a very competitive affair. Slight preference is for Short Work who finished the last turf season in cracking form and produced his best effort of this campaign last time out at Hamilton. He is now back to down to a mark which is a pound lower than when winning over this C/D last October and he has a decent draw in stall two. He likes to lead or be ridden prominently and he should be able to do that in a race which lacks much obvious early pace. The recent rain won’t inconvenience him with four of his five victories coming on ground softer than good and he represents a yard who have hit top form this month
4.30 – Catterick – Landing Night. 1.5 pts win. Available at 15/2.
There looks likely to be plenty of pace in this five furlong sprint and that will suit Landing Night who likes to come from off a generous gallop. He has yet to win in seven attempts this season but he has performed well in the majority of those races and in now down to a mark from which he has proven he can be very competitive. He has lost the assistance of his regular jockey but he has gone well on several occasions in the past for today’s three pound claimer. Landing Night has produced most of his best form on turf on fast ground but he does handle a bit of cut and his record at this track over five furlongs reads 322111.
