Both Monoxide and Shufoog
faded out of contention in the latter stages of their relative races at Sandown yesterday. At Beverley our two selections in the same sprint, Scoundrel and Cameo Star, finished third and fourth respectively, both returning place money.
2.00 – Ayr – Right Action. 1 pt e/w. Available at 16/1. (Betfred, totesport.com, Boylesports – 1/5 odds first 4)
Right Action doesn’t stand out as a possible winner on recent form figures but, although he has won and run well on quick ground, he is a better horse under slower conditions. After winning on his reappearance on soft ground at Doncaster in April he has been mainly seen in better company than he meets here. It was in a better race that he followed up in at Catterick on good to soft ground on his second start of the campaign. He is now two pounds below that last winning mark and may stage a form revival back on slower ground. Paul Hanagan renews acquaintances for the time since Catterick and rides him for just the third time.
3.05 – Ayr – Jay Kay. 1 pt e/w. Available at 16/1. (Betfair, Paddy Power, Boylesports, 188Bet – 1/5 odds first 4)
Jay Kay hasn’t been in any kind of form in his last three starts but two of them were on ground faster than ideal and if he is to refind any form it will come on this track in testing ground. The last time he got that he was a dual winner over today’s trip last October from marks of 71 and 76. He runs from 73 today so he is clearly weighted to get very competitive if the conditions rekindle his enthusiasm. He is a six times winner here (from 17 starts) and he has a useful seven pound claimer to ease his burden. A wide draw won’t help his chances but the yard are in good form with a 14% strike rate and 64% of their horses running to form in the past fortnight.
