Form Guru – 21st August

Of our selections yesterday, only Excalibur ran poorly. Easy Tiger was only overhauled in the final half furlong when finishing third at Leicester. The horse who tried to go with him from the outset was eventually beaten nine lengths into last place. Silent Echo was second and Kimifive fourth in the same race at Windsor where the first four home were covered by less than half a length. The day did end in profit when Che Bella came from a long way back to win at Thirsk.
Today’s Selections:

1.50 – Hamilton – Big Les. 2 pts win. Available at 13/2.

Most of these come here in decent form and some figure off good looking handicap marks. Slight preference is for Big Les who is still relatively lightly raced after just nine starts and has a progressive profile. He has the scope for further improvement for a yard who are in good form. He was fourth of the seven runners in a Ripon handicap last time out but he was only beaten two lengths in a race which may have been needed after a two month break. It was a better race than he takes part in here and prior to that he was a C/D winner and a good third at Ayr. All three of those races came under today’s jockey, who rides this track well.

2.50 – Hamilton – Theglasgowwarrior. 1.25 pts e/w. Available at 10/1. (Generally available – 1/5 odds first 4)

Theglasgowwarrior may find things happening much too quickly over this trip and there are horses present more than capable of improving past him. However there is a plethora of runners who are better when leading and that could result in a race run at a very generous gallop. On a stiff track like this it could bring those with the ability to stay further into play. Theglasgowwarrior stays a lot further so he has to prove he has the pace to keep them within sight if he is to make use of his stamina. At a double figure price the risk looks worth taking given this is a course on which he has produced three of his best four career efforts. They all came on fast ground but he handles slower and the drying conditions here are slowly coming into his favour. Today’s jockey has a record of 113 the only three times he has ridden him.

3.20 – Hamilton – Mabel Lee. 2 pts win. Available at 6/1.

Irish raider, Zig Zag Zyggy looks the one to beat but he, drawn in stall ten, and I’ll Be Good, drawn in stall nine, could give Mabel lee a good towe into the race and she may find enough improvement to prevail. This is just her third start of the campaign and she may still have scope for improvement after just nine career starts. She was beaten just under two lengths in a five runner race at Ayr last time out and that came on the back of a two month break on ground faster than ideal. She is now down to a career low mark which is a pound below her sole win at Thirsk a year ago. This is an easier assignment than the majority of the races he has encountered and he will welcome the slower conditions compared with those he faced at Ayr. Nathan Evans, who was on board for that sole win, returns to the saddle in an attempt to make it two from two. The yard have a very profitable 14% strike rate at this track in recent seasons and send a strong team this afternoon.

5.35 – Kempton – Jedhi. 1.5 pts win. Available at 8/1.

7.50 – Yarmouth – Shyarch. 1 pt e/w. Available at 14/1. (Betfred, Totesport.com, 188Bet – 1/5 odds first 5)
