None of our selections gave us a return yesterday.
3.25 – Sandown – Aardwolf. 3.25 pts win. Available at 4/1.
Only six runners but a competitive affair. Three years olds have fared well in this but this renewal may go to the four year old Aardwolf. He hasn’t been seen on the flat since he joined his current yard at the end of last year but he has been steadily improving as a hurdler and he could be well weighted now he returns to the level. His recent form over obstacles has come on quicker ground and he may have some untapped potential under these conditions over today’s sort of trip. The yard don’t run many of their string on the flat but their record this year of 5 from 9 on turf demonstrate they know what they’re doing when they do. The booking of the in-form James Doyle is a big positive.
4.00 – Sandown – Whispering Sands. 1.5 pts win. Available at 9/1. (Betway)
Some of these have the potential for plenty of further improvement in a race which looks likely to be run at a decent gallop. Whispering Sands hasn’t got near to the winner in his four starts to date but she has shown ability. She was well beaten in a Listed race last time out at Goodwood but she drops into handicap company at a realistic level and can make her presence felt from a mark of 74. She is from the family of Millenary, and runs in the same colours, so she has plenty of potential over middle distances. She has been ridden prominently in a few of her races but she has also been held up so it’s hoped her jockey doesn’t get embroiled in a tussle for the lead. The stiff nature of this track could suit a horse who promises to stay further and it’s unlikely we have seen the best of her yet.
5.15 – Doncaster – Extrasolar. 2.25 pts win. Available at 6/1.
Extrasolar is a light of former years, and he is not always one to rely on, but he has looked on good terms with himself this season and finished with plenty of running left in him when getting no kind of run in the latter stages over seven furlongs at Catterick last time out. Prior to that he had finished well to get up over a furlong shorter at Carlisle and there may still be some mileage in his current mark while he seems to be enjoying himself. He likes to come from off a generous pace and he could get there. His draw could be either an advantage or a disadvantage depending on where the race develops. The yard send just the one to a track where they have had a big priced winner in recent seasons and they have employed Ben Sanderson who was on board at Carlisle and can claim five pounds here.
5.35 – Newbury – Nafaayes. 0.75 pts e/w. Available at 25/1. (Paddy Power, Betfair – 1/5 odds first 4)
8.35 – Doncaster – Roland Rocks. 1.25 pts e/w. Available at 10/1.
