2.10 – Newmarket – Dragon Mountain. 2.5 pts win. Available at 5/1.
A three year old handicap and, as you would expect, there are several with plenty of upside to them. Only two have raced over today’s trip but there is plenty of potential for progression over it amongst the others. Ashington and Hyanna are two such types and, along with their recent form, it sees them at the head of the market. However slight preference is for Dragon Mountain who has shown up creditably in four Novice races and makes his handicap debut from a good looking mark of 74. Three races as a Juvenile all came over a mile and he demonstrated a similar level form in each, finishing placed in two and just over two lengths fifth in the other. Stepped up to 11 furlongs for his reappearance at Kempton 15 days ago, he stayed on steadily in the latter stages to finish if fourth, three and half lengths off the winner. The winner is now rated 83 and the third 84 and Dragon Mountain could be of a similar standard now he steps up again in trip. The yard have a profitable 19% strike rate with their three year olds in handicaps in recent seasons and a 21% strike rate overall with the same age bracket at this track over the same period.
