Yesterday was frustrating. Jimmy Bell found one too good at Hereford and Dahills Hill was leading and still going well when coming down three out at the same track. Raven Banner also had to settle for second at Newcastle, returning place money.
3.15 – Warwick – Ceann Sibheal. 1.5 pts e/w. Available at 9/1.
This may be a moderate Handicap Chase class wise but seven of the eight runners come into the race on the back of a top two finish. They are all open to further improvement but it’s the horse that disappointed last time that’s slightly preferred. Ceann Sibheal is a nine year old but he has only had 15 starts and this is only his sixth start over fences. He didn’t produce anything of note on his first three outings but, equipped with the tongue tie/blinkers combination for the first time, he ran out a facile winner over three miles in heavy ground at Uttoxeter last month. That could’ve been viewed as a fluke but he won easily off the same mark over hurdles here over 26 furlongs and the Uttoxeter form has worked out well with the second and fourth paced horses winning subsequently. He was nowhere near that level of form at Towcester last time out but he ran under a seven pound penalty just four days later and the race may have come too soon. His new mark has now taken effect which puts him eleven pounds above his Uttoxeter mark but, if the same headgear works again, he is still well weighted on that winning effort. He will appreciate the return to a left-handed track and his winning jockey returns for just the one booked ride. The yard Have a profitable 16% strike rate at this track.
