Lake Field and Undisputed were well supported yesterday but the former disappointed and the latter could only manage third. Christmas Twentyand Rising Marienbard both did good late work in their races but couldn’t make the frame. Lough Salt returned place money when he was placed at Wetherby.
1.30 – Lingfield:
Silent Echo. 2 pts win. Available at 6/1.
Swift Approval. 0.75 pts e/w. available at 16/1. (Generally available – 1/5 odds first 4)
A/W finals day at Lingfield but the most attractive race for betting purposes is the opening Apprentice Handicap. Only nine pounds separate the top and bottom weights and it’s two that appear at/near the foot of those weights that appeal most. Silent Echo makes just his eighth start overall today and just his third on an artificial surface. His two previous attempts on the A/W have both been at Lingfield over today’s trip. His first resulted in victory in a Maiden and his second was a close up sixth off the back of a near five month absence last time out. Between those efforts he showed a very useful level of form, including on various good, on turf. With luck he may have finished closer in that last run and he may have a few pounds in hand of the assessor. Swift Aprroval has the pace to take advantage of his inside draw and the last time he was here he led all the way to win from a one pound lower mark. He hasn’t been as good on his last two starts on the Tapeta but he hasn’t had an easy lead, which he may get here despite the large field. If he does he could outrun his price and make the frame at least.
1.40 – Newcastle:
Oriental Lily. 2.5 pts win. Available at 9/2.
Dynamo Walt. 1 pt win. Availavle at 12/1. (Bet365)
A five furlong sprint handicap opens Newcastle’s card and slight preference is for Orienatl Lily and Dynamo Walt. Since switching to the A/W last November Swift Approval has raced five times here. She showed progressive form in winning three of her first four starts over 5/6 furlongs but was unsuited by the pace of the race when going for a for timer over six furlongs last time out. She is likely to get a better pace to aim today and, having gone up 14 pounds in the weights since first racing here, she may not have stopped improving yet. Dynamo Walt is another for whom the race may be run to suit. He is am eleven time winner (from 64 races) on the A/W and, although most of those victories have come at Chelmsford, he has won on the Tapeta at both Wolverhampton and over this C/D. His win here came in December 2016 from just a two pound lower mark but he has won from higher marks elsewhere since. He represents a yard in good form.
3.20 – Newcastle:
Stargazer. 1.25 pts win. Available at 10/1.
Euro Nightmare. 0.5 pts e/w. Available at 20/1. (Skybet, Paddy power, Betfair – 1/5 odds first 4)
4.00 – Bath – Berkshire Boy. 1.5 pts win. available at 8/1.
5.05 – Bath – The Daley Express. 1.75 pts win. Available at 15/2. (Betbright)
