Yesterday finished in a small profit when Cherry Oak finished third at Newcastle. He did particularly well after coming from a long way back to challenge on what probably wasn’t the best side of the track. Our other selection, Wiley Post, finished third at Leicester. His jockey struggled to find cover and his mount raced too keenly.
4.55 – Leicester – Herringswell. 1 pt e/w. Available at 14/1.
A three year old handicap in which nine of the sixteen remaining runners are still maidens. Popsicle and Affluence arrive in good form and the well bred Invincible Peace makes her handicap debut from a lowly mark. They are all respected bu it could be worth chancing Herringswell at a bigger price. She was a winner at Yarmouth on her penultimate start and wasn’t disgraced back there under a six pound penalty last time out. They were both under today’s five pound claimer. This is just her sixth start, so there is plenty of potential for improvement, and she is bred to stay further so this stiff track could be to her liking.
5.55 – Leicester – Biotic. 2 pts win. Available at 6/1.
It’s not surprising to see the two three year olds, Makambe and Tahreek, heading the market and they have plenty of upside. However there looks likely to be enough pace in the race for it to suit the strong travelling Biotic and he is preferred at a bigger price. Since his return in May he has been working his way back up the handicap and has improved has improved from race to race in seven starts. He has never won from a mark this high but, in his current mood, it may not prove beyond him. He was a winner over ten furlongs here earlier in the season and has won twice since over today’s trip. Although he has only a single win to his name in this grade the majority of his best performances have come in it and he has the perfect jockey to suit his style of racing on board today.
6.25 – Leicester – Ski Blast. 1.5 pts e/w. Available at 9/1.
