Yesterday finished in profit when Bookmaker was successful at Lingfield. The NH meetings have again fell foul of the weather so we are left with the moderate flat fayre at the A/W tracks of Wolverhampton and Chelmsford.
5.20 – Wolverhampton:
Foxy Lady. 2.5 pts win. Available at 4/1.
Team Showme. 1.5 pts win. Available at 8/1.
A low grade seven furlong handicap for three year olds. Some come here on the back of a decent effort and many have the potential to improve at a lowly level. Slight preference is for Foxy Lady and Team Showme. Foxy Lady is still a maiden after ten starts but she hasn’t been beaten far in her last two starts on the Tapeta at Newcastle and narrowly missed out there last September. She put in some good late work over today’s trip last time out and has the assistance of a very good five pound claimer today. She represents a yard with a very profitable 15% strike rate at this track in recent seasons and they are in cracking form. Team Showme was putting in all her best work late on over six furlongs at Newcastle last time out. She is four pounds better off with the winner, Ghost, for a beating of just over three lengths and the step back up to seven furlongs gives her an opportunity of reversing that form. Both the yard and jockey turn up for the one booked ride.
7.15 – Chelmsford – War Chief. 3 pts win. Available at 4/1.
Not a bad race for the grade with only six pounds separating the eight runners on Official Ratings. There looks likely to be a strong pace and, if that does turn out to be the case, it could be set up for a closer. Amongst those, preference is for War Chief. He was placed on his first two starts on turf last season and has been gelded since he was slightly below that level when last seen at Sandown. The form of his third at Goodwood last May is a very strong piece of form and he runs here from the same mark. He has to defy a 292 day break but he ran well on last season’s reappearance and fitness is not often an issue with the flat runners from this yard. The booking of Martin Harley, who has a very profitable 17% strike rate at this track in recent seasons and a profitable 33% strike rate on the Trainer’s A/W horses over the same period, takes the eye.
8.15 – Chelmsford – Merhoob. 2 pts win. Available at 6/1.
