Yesterday was a day you would like to forget. None of our selections gave us a return and, to be honest, none of them ever looked likely to.
4.20 – Yarmouth – Tigerfish. 0.75 pts e/w. Available at 16/1. (Skybet – 1/5 odds first 4)
Wild Acclaim comes into this race in the most compelling form and, although he is arguably the most likely winner, it’s debatable whether it’s shrewd taking less than 2/1 about an exposed horse in this grade. Two victories and two placed efforts in his last five starts, with the two victories coming here over 6 and 8 furlongs and one of the placed efforts coming over C/D, supports his claims and he does seem to be on the way back up under his current Trainer. His price also probably owes much to the standard of the opposition. Most are similarly exposed and the quartet of three year olds that aren’t are still maidens, having shown only modest form at best to date. Mossy’s Lodge, Drop Kick Murphi and African Girl all have pieces of form to give them chances if they were to reproduce it; preference of that trio is with the latter who has the highest draw. In recent meetings it has been an advantage to race near to the stands side rail, despite an attempt to redress the balance by watering. Drawn next to African Girl (stall 14) is Tigerfish and she could be worth giving a chance at a big price. Her two victories on turf came over today’s trip at Brighton this time last year, the last from today’s mark, and immediately following those performances she produced a career best when finishing second over this C/D from five pound higher in the weights. She has been seen mainly on the A/W since, returning a number of creditable displays, and her disappointment back at Brighton in May came over ten furlongs on the back of a three month break. Back at her best trip on a track on which she produced a career best the only previous time she visited, she could outrun her price under an excellent three pound claimer who turns up for his only booked ride.
