Form Guru – 6th July

The Jean Genie was the only selection to give us a return yesterday. She almost put our day into profit but she had to settle for second when she was collared right on the line by the favourite at Newbury.

Today’s Selections:

3.20 – Newton Abbot – Beau Phil. 1.75 pts win. Available at 15/2.

Beau Phil has obviously not been easy to get to the track in recent times, having made just four appearances for Jeremy Scott since September 2016. He looked a lost cause in the first three but there was much more encouragement dropped into Selling Grade last time out at Ffos Las. He was beaten eleven and half lengths into third of the five runners but he ran as well as could be expected at the weights and the two that finished ahead of him have both won since. That was over two miles and he steps back up to a more suitable trip this afternoon. He was a C/D Maiden Hurdle winner on his last appearance for Paul Nicholls and he was also placed here over three furlongs shorter from a thirteen pound higher mark. He may not be capable of that level of form nowadays but he wouldn’t need to be to get very competitive at this level back in handicap company.

4.30 – Newton Abbot – Maid Of Milan. 1.25 pts win. Available at 10/1.

Favourite, Fifty Shades, is a young, lightly raced Chaser who has plenty of potential as a stayer over fences. Receiving weight from this field he could be too good for these. However, although she concedes nearly two stone to the market leader, Maid Of Milan could give him something to think about. She has to be forgiven a very poor effort at Uttoxeter last time out but she never looked happy from an early stage there and there was obviously something bothering her. Prior to that she had produced a decent, consistent level of form in her four completed starts as a Chaser. She is still relatively lightly raced and she was a C/D winner off six pounds lower on her debut over fences back in October. The yard’s horses are running well and their Chasers have a reasonable 15% strike rate in handicaps in recent seasons. They were 3 from 7 when using Gavin Sheehan on their horses over fences last season.

8.20 – Beverley – Cool Music. 1.25 pts e/w. Available at 10/1. (Skybet, Paddy Power – 1/5 odds first 4)

8.40 – Chelmsford – Top Boy. 1.5 pts win. Available at 17/2.

8.50 – Beverley – Foxy Boy. 1 pt e/w. Available at 14/1.

9.15 – Chelmsford – Ginger Lady. 1 pt e/w. Available at 12/1.
