Greyhound Derby 1st Round Review
Thursday

Foxwood Boom got the Derby off to a shock with a 25/1 win with Odds on fav King Eden only scrapping through in fourth. Worse was to follow when Droopys Expert another odds on jolly bowed out of after a trouble marred race which Droopys Giorgio won.
Lenson Blinder ran well picking up longtime leader Bubbly Turbo in the next. King Elvis didn’t flash out but his brute early pace saw him clear the bend but he was reeled in close home by Borna Gin and Coneen Jack only a head further back, caught the eye with flying finish.
I thought Slippy Cian was home and hosed after he led so I upgrade Borna Account who I thought needed to lead. Jelly Flood is a name to keep in your notebooks when stepping up to six bends. Whoops Jack flew out and rewarded fav backers but it was runner up Greenwell Jean power packed finish that caught the eye. Another jolly Calico Brandy followed up once he reeled in early leader The Other Ben but was made to work hard by another finisher Trade Fudge close home. The race of the night didn’t disappoint when Rising Brandy saw off the determined challenge of Dorotas Wildcat who would have been the victor if the principals were drawn the other. Black Zack was another who fluffed his lines early but his pace saw him clear but Irish challenger Crossfield Will ran him down close home.

Friday
Ante Post market leader Droopys Verve made handler Angela Harrison’s long trip back up North a shorter one than the night before after a facile win in a good time. Jaytee Jaguar took advantage of Droopys Wilbury first bend trouble to score. Another ante post market leader Bruisers Bullet was expected to score by the had to play second fiddle to kennel mate Saleen Ash who won well. Swithins Brae led at the second bend and scored with ease.
Boylesports Duke fav in the next was another who had to give best to fellow Towcester local God of War for Heather Dimmock. Top Hurdler Lenson Wilson blasted clear and he looked as if he was going to win until Honour Turbo nailed him right on the lollypop. Shaneboy Freddie missed it but Sporting Dave never and the result wasn’t it doubt. Deanridge Boffin beat Seaglass Sandman in a scrappy race but he looks an improver. Bockos Alfie led as expected and held on from the fast finishing Alfie’s Prince.

Saturday
Da Head Hunter was another first round winner for Peter Cronin who was in fire and the other Irish dog in the race Droopys Biker could only finish fourth.
Bombers Bullet impressed me winning in a fast time after leading early, he can do it both ways.
Tyrur Harold won the next a four dog race as he was entitled too.
Magical Bale the Puppy Derby winner over the c&d was another to really catch my eye winning well leading at the first bend. Early pace and leading was the way to success as Bubbly Bluebird did just that wining the next, where last years runner up Tyrur Shea bowed out.
Drive On Tipp won the next accounting for odds on fav and leading ante post fancy  Droopys Davy who went out in fourth and he was found to have fractured a metacarpal after the race.
How Black Farren won the next Heat I’m still working out, his first bend coming to together with The Other Reg looked as if it had put both out of the Derby. But Farren had other ideas when flying home to catch Greenwell Jet. Reg went out. In the very last heat Murrys Act sent fav backers home happy with an authoritative display, picking up early leader Rough Star.

Mark Wallis got eight of his nine runners through to round two.
The Irish challenge though less numerically this year, is very strong with Peter Cronin who won four Pat Buckley & Graham Holland won two each and Paul Hennessy with one winner.
Can Wallis, Hutton, Harrison and Cahill etc keep the prize at home.the
