Early Bird – 12th May

1:55 Lingfield – Cecchini

Fascinating three year old who shattered the course 2yo record when winning on debut over a mile at Kempton. Shaped as though there was plenty more to come whilst it is bred for this far also. Takes on several talented horses including an O’Brien horse who won by 10 lengths last time. That was in a maiden and on soft/heavy ground so was quite possibly flattered along with the fact it was unfancied at 14/1. Cecchini yard of Beckett has started the year well with their 3yos with 12 winners from 60 runners this year so far. This could well make it an unlucky for some 13.

2:00 Haydock – Jester Jet

Seems a big price for a mare who has a good strike rate and has been most progressive in her career. Her best form last year came on good ground yet she managed to win on soft at Ascot just two runs ago. Disappointed a couple of weeks later at Sandown, though that track doesn’t suit everyone. May of found the race coming too soon and just couldn’t get competitive on faster ground at the trip having been held up out the back. The step up to 3m will suit, she has already won over 3m 1f whilst the ground is ideal. Already a grade 3 handicap winner, if she gets a good pace to chase then I think she can outrun her odds.

5:10 Ascot – Madame Bounty

Started the season well last year when winning a maiden before following up in a class 5 handicap, both on fast ground with the latter run working out well. Not disgraced towards the end of last season when 4th in a class 2 handicap when may of preferred faster ground. Not suited by an aw surface, it has flopped each time it has run on one. If the draw turns out to be favourable then with the yard in form it can go well.

4:00 Ascot – Repercussion

I have already advised Kynren for this race who is still around the same price I put him forward at. I am going to add to it now I know the draw with a horse on the opposite side in Repercussion. Ran well in two big mile handicaps this year, the first doing especially well considering it was unfavourably drawn. Has shown plenty of pace in those races however to suggest a drop to 7f is well worth a try and in fact may be ideal for the horse. Drawn with plenty of pace around it, it should get a good toe into the race plus we know it will see the trip out.

3:10 Haydock – Chesterfield

Already have advised Silver Streak at 14/1 which looks very exciting now. Want to add Chesterfield to it though. Noted it at Cheltenham having made a big move around the outside from the back only to find its exertions tell on the ground and up the hill at the finish. Then went for a repeat bid in the Scottish Champion Hurdle when tipping it up only to see it make a big mistake early on in the race. Still ran on really well to finish a close third. Up a further 3lb and this is no easier but if it can avoid the mistakes then it certainly looks capable of taking a race like this. Nicholls runners have been well backed for this but he has a terrible record in the race so am confident they will be beat.
