2:20 York – Desert Law & Carlton Frankie
5f sprints can often be a nightmare, though if you stay away from the favourites then it is worth chancing at times as they can throw up some big priced winners. That is why I am taking a couple against the field here in Desert Law and Carlton Frankie. Two very different horses. Desert Law is a 10yo now though age can often be no barrier for a sprinter. Slipping down the handicap it should have its favoured fast ground whilst it should appreciate the slightly stiffer finish than what it faced at Epsom last time, an all speed track. Only 2lb above the mark from when winning a race at this track last year. There is every reason to think it should run well again.
Carlton Frankie is a lightly raced 4yo who has always been held in good regard. Started last season winning a couple of races where they thought it may be up to listed class. Fell away though after that though as can often happen in 5f sprints, things didn’t go its way with the break and the draw. May well of had breathing issues also as it was subsequently given a breathing operation in February this year. Only 2lb above its last winning mark, it clearly goes well fresh and if the operation has done the trick then it has the pace to be difficult to beat off a low weight.

5:25 Salisbury – Qaaraat
A 7 race maiden though has come close to winning on several occasions. None more so when an unlucky in running 2nd behind Life To Rent last year, a race which worked out pretty well. Steps up to 6f here though is bred more for this kind of trip whilst it handles any ground. Seemed to be outpaced on first run this year over 5f though that would have blown any cobwebs away. Yard has had a quiet start to the season though has shown much more promise in the last couple of days including a winner and a runner up. It could be that the yards horses are needing that first run.
