Form Guru – 11th September

Yesterday finished in profit. Manson was well placed on the turn for home at Chelmsford but he again met trouble in the straight. He seems to lack the tactical pace to hold his place when the gallop quickens over a turning mile before finishing well. Our other selection, Timeforben, was a convincing winner of the valuable hurdle race at Newton Abbot, the first time blinkers helping her to keep her concentration once she had hit the front.
Today’s Selections:
2.20 – Worcester – Gone Platinum. 0.75 pts e/w. Available at 25/1.
Not much of interest in this moderate Handicap Chase. Hillary View won on his Chase debut on his return from an absence and could improve significantly for that run but he will need to from this fourteen pound higher mark. At a much bigger price the suggestion is Gone Platinum who owes his big odds mainly to a poor performance last time out at Ffos Las. No post race explanation has been given for that effort but a two month break since suggests something may have been amiss. He had run well on all four previous starts under rules this year, all at Ffos Las, and a repeat of any of them would see him get at least competitive in this company. The yard are adept at placing their Chasers in Handicaps having returned a very profitable 16% strike rate with them in recent seasons. The booking of Tom Scudamore takes the eye and he turns up for this ride two hours before his second and last entry for a yard he normally rides for.
4.20 – Leicester – Mountain Rescue. 2 pts win. Available at 5/1.
There may be only eight runners for this seven furlong handicap but it’s a very competitive affair. Slight preference is for Mountain Rescue who was a winner over today’s trip at Newmarket in May and has run creditably in better races on his last two starts. He drops back to the class in which he last won and he is reunited with William Buick for the first time since that victory. His poor performances are few and far between and he was a winner on his only previous visit to this track. That came over 10 furlongs and the stamina he showed then could be a good asset in a race which looks likely to be strongly run. The yard are in good form and they have a profitable 33% strike rate (6 from 18) with today’s jockey.
5.10 – Catterick – Lexington Place. 1.75 pts e/w. Available at 15/2.
