Form Guru – 14th August

Couldn’t Could She returned place money when she finished second at Windsor yesterday, doing well after missing the break. Not So Sleepy only found one too good at Ayr and, at the same track, Supaulette was successful to put our day into profit.

Today’s Selections:

3.45 – Ffos Llas:

Duration. 2.5 pts win. Available at 5/1. (Skybet)

Katabatika. 1 pt e/w. Available at 12/1. (Generally available – 1/5 odds first 4)

Some of these have the potential for improvement at a modest level. Duration is one of four three year olds to take their chance and he receives weight from the rest of this field on his third excursion into handicap company. He was well beaten on his first four starts but he got much closer to the winner last time out over 14 furlongs at Wolverhampton and he could build on that this afternoon. He drops back to 12 furlongs here, so he will probably need a decent gallop, and he gets professional handling for the first time. He has yet to prove himself on ground this slow but his Dam was a soft ground winner and recorded her best two performances on heavy going. The yard are in very good form and they have a very profitable 29% strike rate at this track in recent seasons. Katabatika showed her best form in three of her last four starts last season, all on the A/W at Kempton over today’s trip. She was well supported when returning from a five month break at Chepstow in June but was beaten eight lengths into fifth of the ten runners in soft ground over ten furlongs. She looked in need of the race and wasn’t given a hard time when beaten. Back in professional hands and back up in trip she still has some potential on turf after just five starts. She is still five pounds above her sole winning mark but that was a comfortable victory and her current rating shouldn’t be beyond her. Her Trainer has a profitable 27% strike rate here and the booking of Jim Crowley, who has a profitable 37% strike rate at this track, takes the eye.

6.35 – Nottingham – The Pinto Kid. 2 pts win. Available at 6/1.

There looks likely to be plenty of pace put to this race and that will suit The Pinto Kid. He makes his handicap debut from a mark of 70 and, while that is no gimme, he has dropped big hints on his last two starts that stamina is his strong suit and he would be seen to better effect over longer staying trips. The step up to 14 furlongs from/or around 12 furlongs gives him that opportunity here and he could prove to be much better than his initial rating. He handled cut in the ground on his penultimate start and his Dam was a winner in soft going so conditions here shouldn’t faze him. His Trainer sends just the one to a track where he has never had a runner before and the jockey also turns up for his sole booked ride.

7.20 – Thirsk:

Peachey Carnehan. 2 pts win. Available at 11/2.

Lucky Lodge. 0.75 pts e/w. Available at 25/1. (Skybet – 1/5 odds first 4)

7.50 – Thirsk – Dominannie. 0.75 pts e/w. Available at 33/1.
