Today’s cards are littered with small fields and there are plenty of horses returning from breaks with questions to answer.
3.05 – Wetherby – Bonne Question. 1 pt win. Available at 8/1.
Bonne Question is a speculative selection having been away from the track for 643 days prior to finishing tailed off at Catterick last month. He may well need this run as well but at the relevant prices it looks worth risking that he is fit enough to get competitive at this level. His last five efforts in Maiden/Novice company back in Feb. – May 2016 prior to his absence saw him finish in the frame four times and winning on the last of them, a facile victory at Southwell. He was rated 116 at the time but was dropped four pounds for his reappearance at Catterick. The Assessor has been quick to give him further respite by easing his rating a further five pounds for defeat in a race which was probably badly needed. He has proven himself on soft ground on these shores and on heavy going in his native France. If he retains his former ability the balance of his form suggests a mark of 107 leaves him well handicapped. The yard have had a disappointing campaign but they had a welcome winner on Saturday and if their horses are to show their form it’s invariably when conditions are testing.
