Form Guru – 22nd March

Mighty Thunder was disappointing yesterday at Haydock. At the same track Shockingtimes ran out a comfortable winner and our other selection,Virginia Chick, did likewise at Chepstow.

Today’s Selections:

4.00 – Chepstow:

La Saroque. 1.25 pts win. Available at 10/1. (Generally available)

Pink Gin. 1.25 pts win. Available at 10/1. (Sportingbet)

An open looking Handicap Chase with joint topweight being the admirable fifteen year old, Paddy The Oscar. He has lost none of his enthusiasm having recorded two victories, three seconds and a third from seven outings since reappearing last October. Four of those performances came over this C/D where he has returned form figures of 2131. Three came in soft or heavy ground (the other was on G/S) and all came under today’s three pound claimer. His mark has gone up twelve pounds over that sequence but in his current mood another victory wouldn’t surprise. However slight preference at bigger prices is for two others who are into veteran status, La Saroque and Pink Gin. La Saroque is not the horse he was a few seasons back and, in keeping with his stable’s fortunes, he has disappointed on both starts this season. They both came after significant breaks and, although he has gone well fresh in the past, it’s possible they were needed. The assessor has been quick to react and he is now to a career low mark of 103. He stays well and is happiest when the mud is flying. He got competitive from much higher marks in better races than this last season, gets on well with his competent seven pound claimer and the yard have had three winners and a second from eleven entries in the past five days. The Trainer’s Chasers do well here having returned a very profitable 25% strike here in recent seasons. If Saroque fails to fire Pink Gin is one of several who could take advantage. He was still going well at the head of affairs when coming down at the 10th of 15 fences at Towcester last time out but the form of his seconds at Wincanton and Ffos Las prior to that entitle him to plenty of respect. The form of those races has held up well and he is only two pounds higher here than for each of those outings. He may be ten years old but he doesn’t have many miles on the clock and makes just his sixth start over fences today. The yard remain in form having had a winner and two placed from five entries post-Cheltenham.

5.15 – Ludlow:

Birch Hill. 2 pts win. Available at 13/2. (Sportingbet)

Bertimont. 1 pt e/w. Available at 14/1. (Paddy Power, Betfair, Betvictor)
