Form Guru – 26th May

Both Parnassian (3rd at Goodwood) and Equitant (4th at Haydock) ran well yesterday and Nuzha was a non runner at Bath. The day finished in profit when, at Pontefract, Island Flame returned place money when he finished third and Trinity Star was successful, winning cosily from off the pace.

Today’s Selections:

2.00 – York – Absolutely So. 0.75 pts e/w. Available at 18/1. (Bet365 – 1/4 odds first 3)

This sprint could well go to one of the four year olds with Golden Apollo and Gilgamesh looking the best of them. However at a much bigger price it’s tempting to side with Absolutely So. He is capable of throwing in the odd poor run, mainly due to his tendency to race too keenly, but he is a very good horse when everything drops right for him. Being drawn on the wing in stall one is a bit of a concern but the likely fast pace could help him settle if his jockey can tuck him in and get a good tow into the race. He has won on fast ground but seems better on good ground or softer so he should find conditions here to his liking. He was well beaten on his reappearance last month but that was likely needed and he should be capable of much better this afternoon. The form he showed at Haydock this time last year suggests a mark of 105 is one he can get competitive from and he won the only previous occasion he raced here.

2.30 – Goodwood – Zap. 1 pt e/w. Available at 12/1. (MarathonBet)

Many potential improvers in this seven furlong handicap restricted to three year olds. There is an abundance of early pace present and it would be a surprise if anything other than a strongly run race will result. That will suit Zap who flew home from the rear to just fail on his return at York ten days ago. He has a potentially good draw here but he will need racing room at the right times so he will be a hostage to fortune somewhat. He hasn’t won since his debut but has a slowly progressive profile and it’s likely he will strip fitter this afternoon. All ground seems to come alike to him and he is partnered by a jockey in good form. Zap’s ability to handle the track has to be taken on trust but he ran well at Epsom as a Juvenile so the omens look good in that respect.

2.35 – York – Je Suis Charlie. 1.5 pts win. Available at 9/1.

We supported Je Suis Charlie on his reappearance here ten days ago but he ran like a horse who was both needing the race and not happy on the fast ground. The easing to good conditions will suit and, with his last outing behind him, better can be expected this afternoon. He was a five length winner over today’s trip at Catterick from a six pound lower mark for previous connections last season and rounded of his campaign with a decent effort over 14 furlongs here. That came from one pound higher in the handicap than he runs from today and suggests he is weighted well enough to make his presence felt. The yard have hit form in no uncertain terms returning a very profitable 24% strike rate (8 from 34) with their turf flat horses this month.

2.50 – Haydock:
Completion. 2 pts win. Available at 7/1.
Regimented. 0.5 pts e/w. Available at 40/1. (Betfred, Skybet, Betway – 1/5 odds first 5)

3.30 – Chester – Dark Pearl. 2 pts win. Available at 7/1. (Sportingbet)

3.40 – York:
Dakota Gold. 1.25 pts win. Available at 11/1. (Ladbrokes, Unibet)
Final Venture. 1.25 pts win. Available at 10/1.

5.10 – Haydock – Muscika. 2.5 pts win. Available at 11/2.
